What Is Detailing?

Most people have heard the term ’Detailing’ but many haven’t been given an explanation of what the term actually means. What exactly should be expected when receiving a detailing service?

Often, people think that Car “Wash” and Car “Detail” are the same thing, when in fact there are very different.

Detailing refers to thorough cleaning and polishing of all the parts of the car. while also using tools and treatments to protect the vehicle that typically wouldn’t be used in a standard car wash.

Professional detailer uses high-quality tools/products from the UK, USA, Japan, etc. and the staff will be trained in proper detailing techniques. Detailing is very popular in the West, as people understand the benefits of keeping their car in the best condition possible.

The paint is one of the most delicate parts of your car. One small scratch can destroy the resell value of your investment. Any experienced car detailer understands that car paint detailing is a three-step process aimed at cleaning, correcting, and protecting the vehicle’s paintwork.

Firstly, the car should be thoroughly cleaned to remove any dirt and expose other underlying impurities sticking to the vehicle.

The detailer should then apply a clay bar on the affected parts. Claying removes any paint contaminants, including metallic attachments, tar, and dirt.

Should there be swirl marks or fine scratches on the car paint, they should be polished, thus restoring the vehicle’s paintwork to its factory state. To protect the paint from further contamination and help it shine, the detailer should seal the paint via a sealant, wax or ceramic coating.

Exterior detailing includes cleaning all the exterior parts of the vehicle, including:

The chassis and undercarriage directly under the car also form part of exterior detailing. As part of the process, the wheel are cleaned as well as the suspension. The wheels rims and tires are also thoroughly cleaned and dressed with a suitable treatment that improves their luster and protects them from corrosion.

The engine is one of the most important aspects of car detailing that ensures the vehicle engine maintains the factory look and ensures the engine runs well. It involves carefully cleaning the oily external parts of the engine with a degreaser before rinsing them thoroughly with clean water and allowing them to dry. The degreaser should, however, not be used to clean the rubber and plastic coverings of the engine to avoid corrosion and accelerated wear and tear.

Detailing the interior involves cleaning all parts inside the vehicle, including the drivers and passenger areas as well as the trunk. In some instances, it may mean simple upholstery and vacuuming of these regions and thoroughly cleaning the carpets and dashboard. At other times, it may require detaching, cleaning, and steam cleaning the seats to remove germs and bacteria that is bad for your health.

Particular attention should be paid on the boot/trunk to ensure that it is properly vacuumed of any dirt and debris before cleaning with water to avoid soiling and staining other parts of the vehicle such as the roof when it is open.

Interior detailing also involves applying glass cleaners on the windows and mirrors, wiping them clean, and waxing them to prevent them from attracting dust. There is more to car detailing than just removing the dirt. It involves restoring your car paint, exterior, and interior to their original factory state cleanliness. Detailing is designed to make your car look better than they would just out of a showroom.

We recommend that you clean your car weekly and every few months undertake a simple detailing package to keep it looking beautiful. Not only is this visually appealing, your car will shine and look amazing for a long time, but it also helps to keep your investment value high.
