Have you ever wondered what those strange white stains are on your paintwork? Why are they there, and how can you remove them? With the rainy season approaching here in Vietnam, you will find this problem happens a lot!
In Vietnam, we have a lot of acid rain and pollutants in the air, containing dirt and contaminants. When it rains, the sun will dry this water by evaporation, which leaves behind these trace elements. These end up creating ugly spots on your car, but they will also severely damage your paintwork.
Do you recognize these?
When water lands on your car, it carries with it a group of minerals such as; Calcium, Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium, and acid from pollution.
Furthermore, if you use a car wash garage that doesn’t dry your car properly 100% – then within a few hours water spots will appear under the hot sun.
Dirty marks on your glass windows not only make your car look worse than it needs to, but they can also be dangerous as they can build up and block your vision of the road.
If you allow these water spots to stay on your car for more than a few days, the acid and minerals in the water will eat at the paintwork. Resulting in permanent damage to your car’s exterior.
Machine polishing can usually remove some of the serious watermarks, if it’s done soon after the damage becomes apparent. However, very often they have already burnt through the clear coat and caused irreparable damage. If you ever see water spots appear on your vehicle, it’s critical that you remove them as soon as you can.
If you try and remove water spots within a few days, it’s a straightforward process with some specialized products such as IGL Delete or IGL Glass+.
It’s best to not use a cheap water spot remover. It will likely have chemicals that will cause long term damage.
Many inferior water spot removers contain harmful acids that will damage your plastic and glass over a long period of time. To avoid this problem, it’s best to avoid knockoff products.
We recommend that you ensure that water spots are removed within a few days of appearing, this will enable them to come off quickly. Otherwise, it will be costly to have them removed by machine polishing. It may also be too late to remove them; permanent damage may already have occurred like in these pictures below.
